Description

1861 Indian Cent, PR64
Beautifully Toned Low-Mintage Key

1861 1C PR64 PCGS. CAC. A low mintage of only 1,000 proof pieces resulted in the 1861 Indian cent becoming the key date in the proof series. Because many of the proofs went unsold, numerous pieces were either destroyed or released into circulation, leading to a lower number of survivors than the production figure might suggest. The design elements exhibit a pleasing degree of definition on this lovely near-Gem displaying a variety of attractive colors, particularly on the obverse, including shades of golden-yellow, cherry, lime-green, orange, and wheat-gold. A few small carbon spots are present on both sides. Population: 60 in 64, 22 finer (5/13).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 229B, PCGS# 2256)

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
