Description

1861 Indian Cent, PR65+

1861 1C PR65+ PCGS. CAC. Ex: Perfection 2. The Indian cent made its debut in 1859 and the reverse was quickly modified in 1860 to include a shield at the top of the wreath. That modified design continued in production through the end of the series in 1909, with a change from copper-nickel to bronze in 1864.

This lovely Gem 1861 copper-nickel Indian cent has light golden-tan surfaces and bold design details with excellent eye appeal. The fields are fully and deeply mirrored around lustrous devices that are frosty and attractive. Excellent cameo contrast is the result despite the lack of the Cameo designation. The only Plus-graded MS65 at PCGS, one of six pieces with CAC endorsement for the grade. PCGS population: 23 in 65 (1 in 65+), 3 finer (12/15).
