Description

1861 Indian Cent, PR65
Seldom Seen This Fine

1861 1C PR65 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Perfection 2. A lovely copper-nickel proof Indian cent in seldom-seen Gem condition. This 1861 is boldly struck with reflective fields and warm bronze-orange color. Eye appeal is excellent. CAC has endorsed only six non-Cameo Gems and two finer (12/15). The 1861 proof Indian cent had a recorded mintage of 1,000 pieces, but significantly fewer survivors are known today. PCGS and NGC combined list only 229 coins across all grades, including a likely number of resubmissions. The issue is a genuine rarity in Gem condition and is exceedingly elusive any finer. Population: 23 in 65 (1 in 65+), 3 finer (12/15).
