    Description

    Outstanding Cameo Gem 1862 Cent

1862 1C PR65 Cameo PCGS. The 1862 is generally considered the type coin of the copper-nickel series, but very few actual Gems are available to collectors, especially with cameo contrast. This is a well-produced coin that has deeply mirrored, flashy fields and even reddish-golden color--actually more suggestive of a bronze coin than one with a copper-nickel composition. Unlike the previous year's proofs, this piece is typical of most 1862s with razor sharp definition on all the design elements. The only flaw we see is an irregular planchet flake out of the lower left obverse field in front of the point of the truncation of the Indian's neck. Population: 14 in 65 Cameo, 18 finer (11/04).(#82259) (Registry values: P3)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229C, PCGS# 82259)

    Weight: 4.67 grams

    Metal: 88% Copper, 12% Nickel
