Gem Deep Cameo Proof 1862 Indian Cent

1862 1C PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. The 1862 is generally used as the type coin for the series, primarily because of a hoard of 200 coins that came to light many years ago. It is occasionally available with cameo surfaces but Deep Cameo coins are very rare, this being only the second piece we have handled. The devices are heavily frosted and the fields very deeply mirrored, which gives the coin the pronounced contrast that is so rarely seen. Bright overall, the surfaces are almost "white," approaching the color the coin had when it was new in 1862. The only mentionable flaw is a small carbon spot below the T in UNITED. Population: 1 in 65, 2 finer (3/04).(#92259)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229C, PCGS# 92259)

    Weight: 4.67 grams

    Metal: 88% Copper, 12% Nickel
