Description

Impressive, Strongly Contrasted 1862 Cent, PR66 Cameo

1862 1C PR66 Cameo PCGS. The copper-nickel series from 1860 through 1864 is a short and completable set. But if just one type coin is needed for a 19th century proof type set, the 1862 would be the most likely suspect. There are a surprising number of well-produced, high grade proofs extant. However, this is an exceptional coin even for this year. The surfaces retain much of the original whiteness, seen here more as a pale shade of lilac. Elsewhere there are soft touches of tan present. The fields are deeply mirrored and the devices show strong contrast on each side. Population: 18 in 66 Cameo, 3 finer (9/09).(Registry values: P3)
