Seldom Found With Contrast and High Grade

1862 1C PR67 Cameo NGC. Even though the mintage for proofs from this year is not substantially higher than that for other years in the copper-nickel series, the 1862 is significantly more available. Most likely this is because a hoard of approximately 200 pieces that surfaced many years ago. Few, however, can rival the sheer visual appeal of this wondrous coin. The fields are nicely, but not deeply reflective with significant frost over the devices, giving the coin its cameoed appearance. The obverse has an even, light red color while the reverse retains much of the original "whiteness" of the copper-nickel alloy. Census: 4 in 67 Cameo, 1 finer (6/12).(Registry values: P3)
