Description

Unsurpassed 1862 Indian Cent
PR67 Cameo

1862 1C PR67 Cameo PCGS. CAC. An unsurpassable -- and unsurpassed, at PCGS -- Cameo representative of this desirable copper-nickel proof cent. It is inconceivable that this coin would garner anything less than a Superb Gem grade. There is not a single distracting blemish, and the shimmering fields form a splendid backdrop to the crisp, fully brought-up devices. Just a hint of orange-tinged iridescence interrupts the otherwise honey-tan coloration. PCGS reports only three 1862 Indian cents at the PR67 Cameo grade level, and, unsurprisingly, there are none finer at PCGS (11/11). One should be able to trace the pedigree of this important specimen by a tiny, out-of-the-way planchet flaw (as produced) at 7 o'clock on the obverse rim.
Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 7/2004), lot 5191, which brought $13,800; Estate of Robert R. Rollins Collection/ANA Signature (Heritage, 7/2008), which realized $17,250.(Registry values: P3)
