Description

1862 Indian Cent, PR67 Cameo
Tied for Finest Cameo Proof at PCGS

1862 1C PR67 Cameo PCGS. CAC. Ex: Perfection 2. This stunning beauty is tied for the finest Cameo proof that PCGS has certified. The lovely golden-tan surfaces have deeply mirrored fields that frame the highly lustrous and sharply detailed devices on this Superb Gem Cameo proof. While the 1862 is considered the most plentiful date among proof copper-nickel Indian cents, examples with cameo contrast are quite rare. Apparently unsold proofs were preserved at the Philadelphia Mint and sold to collectors at a later date. One of three CAC-endorsed Cameo proofs at this level, and none finer. Population: 5 in 67 Cameo, 0 finer (4/21).
Ex: Perfection 1 & 2 Collections, Part 1 / FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2016), lot 5253.
