Description

1862 Copper-Nickel Cent, PR67 Cameo
Exceptional Contrast, Deeply Reflective

1862 1C PR67 Cameo PCGS. Ex: Palm Beach Collection. This coin exemplifies why the 1862 is considered the ultimate date for a copper-nickel cent type coin. In general, strike, mirroring, and planchet problems are not a problem on 1862 cents. That is certainly the case on this coin. The fields are deeply mirrored and the devices nicely frosted, which gives the coin a pronounced cameo contrast on each side. The obverse displays an even reddish coloration, while the reverse tends more toward the original whitish-tan the coin had when new. This is a memorable coin from this important set of proof Indian cents.
