Description

Exceptional PR67 1862 Indian Cent

1862 1C PR67 NGC. Despite a limited mintage of approximately 550 pieces, the 1862 is the most readily obtainable proof issue in the copper-nickel Indian cent series. Nevertheless, many of these coins were mishandled during the war years, and the present Superb Gem is rare from a condition standpoint. Warm, champagne-tan color dominates this coin's outward appearance, and significant reflectivity is seen in the fields. There are no areas of noticeable striking softness, and the surfaces are expectantly hairline-free for the grade. This coin shares the PR67 grade level with only five examples at NGC and PCGS, and it is bettered by none (8/08).(Registry values: N4719)
