Description

1862 Indian Cent, PR68 Cameo
Sole Finest Copper-Nickel Cameo Proof
Ultimate Condition Rarity

1862 1C PR68 Cameo NGC. Snow-PR2. Only a tiny percentage of surviving 1862 proof cents show the cameo contrast that collectors find so appealing. The PR68 Cameo offered here is the finest example seen by either NGC or PCGS. Indeed, it remains the only Copper-Nickel cent designated Cameo or Deep Cameo to get the 68 grade with none equal or finer at either service. As such, it is an extremely important condition rarity destined for the most advanced Indian cent collection.

This remarkable proof displays bright copper-gold mirrored surfaces with bold field-motif contrast. Excellent strike definition characterizes the frosted design elements and distracting post-Mint blemishes of any sort are absent. A microscopic planchet flake near the jawline is useful for future identification, but it is entirely inoffensive and incidental to the outstanding Superb Gem quality of this splendid Cameo proof.
