    1864 Bronze No L Cent
    Bright PR67 Red and Brown

1864 1C Bronze No L PR67 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Rick Snow reasons that because the bronze cents were struck later in the year, the majority of 1864 proofs were of the copper-nickel composition. "Of a total of 470 silver sets minted, 370 were produced prior to the changeover to the bronze cent and the introduction of the two cent piece in May. Only 100 sets were minted later, on July 12." This ratio of 370 to 100 is more in alignment with the actual availability/scarcity of each issue. This is a wonderful, bright, shimmering proof. Unlike many bronze cents from the year, it shows no streaking or woodgrain effect. Each side is cherry-red with a bit of pale green on the upper-right obverse, and the surfaces are fully struck throughout. Population: 1 in 67 Red and Brown, 0 finer (2/13).
