    Description

Rare 1864 Bronze Proof Indian Cent

1864 1C Bronze PR64 Red PCGS. Rick Snow in his 1992 book on the Indian Cent series, estimated that the mintage for the 1864 Bronze proofs was 150 pieces. Breen in his 1977 reference on proofs believed that only 100 or so were produced. In either case, there can be no doubt that this is an important rarity among early proof Indian Cents, especially with the full red color intact. Only 16 pieces have been so graded by PCGS with 11 finer (6/01). The fields are deeply mirrored and the coin has light reddish-orange color over both sides. A pleasing example of this rare early proof.
