    Description

PCGS 1864 Copper-Nickel PR 64. Last year of the copper-nickel alloy for small cents and one of only five dates in the series. These early proofs are very scarce, and much more desirable than the later issues because of the need for copper-nickel pieces for type sets. This is a deeply reflective coin that has rich cherry-red color rather than the pale honey-tan usually seen. A few small specks of copper are noted on the reverse which prevent an even higher grade.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229E, PCGS# 2265)

    Weight: 4.67 grams

    Metal: 88% Copper, 12% Nickel

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
