    Description

    1864 Copper-Nickel Cent, Proof 65 PCGS

1864 Copper-Nickel PR 65 PCGS. Final year of the copper-nickel alloy for small cents and one of just 370 pieces struck. These early proofs are very scarce, and much more desirable than the later issues because of the need for copper-nickel pieces for type sets. The glittering surfaces are most appealing in their color and lack of hairlines.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229E, PCGS# 2265)

    Weight: 4.67 grams

    Metal: 88% Copper, 12% Nickel
