    Description

    Gem Proof 1864 Copper-Nickel Cent

1864 1C Copper-Nickel PR65 PCGS. A glittering pinkish-tan proof representative with a trace of orange patination at the margins and appreciable contrast between fields and devices. Only 370 proofs were originally produced of this final year Copper-Nickel Cent and, while some experts have estimated the number of survivors in the vicinity of 100 pieces, this cataloger would suggest that the actual number is perhaps closer to 200 specimens.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229E, PCGS# 2265)

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
