1865 Cent, PR66 Red
One of the Two Finest Known

1865 1C PR66 Red NGC. The 1865 proof is one of the more difficult dates in the early Indian Head cent series to acquire, especially with full Red color. In fact, NGC and PCGS have graded only 54 Red examples, most of which exist at the near-Gem level. This Premium Gem offering is one of the two finest known. Bright yellow-gold and crimson luster on the obverse cedes to orange-gold on the reverse. The design elements are crisply struck and both sides have been nicely cared for Census: 1 in 66 Red, 0 finer (4/14).
