Description

Razor-Sharp 1866 Cent, PR65 Red

1866 1C PR65 Red PCGS. Fully Red 1866 proof cents are very rare and will attract serious competition if problem free. The current Gem offering will do just that. Its copper-orange surfaces show splashes of crimson on the reverse, and a well executed strike leaves razor-sharp detail on the design elements. Some minor roughness is noted on the cheek. This is not a grade-limiting feature, however, as Richard Snow (2009) writes that this is characteristic of all specimens because the obverse die may have rusted slightly. Population: 14 in 65 Red, 3 finer (6/09).(Registry values: N4719)
