    Description

Scarce PR66 Red 1867 Indian Cent

1867 1C PR66 Red NGC. The obverse die of the 1867 proof cent was apparently accidentally scratched on the neck of the Indian, and shows as a shallow die line on all proofs from this year. As with all proof cents from the 1860s, this is a rare date with full red color. Only four other pieces have been so graded by NGC with none finer (5/08), and only one PR66 Red has been certified by PCGS. The sparkling, deeply reflective fields flash strongly through the even red luster seen over each side. A lovely, high grade example of this scarce, early Indian cent.
