Description

1868 Indian Cent, PR66 Red Cameo
Tied for the Finest Certified Cameo Proof

1868 1C PR66 Red Cameo PCGS. CAC. Ex: Perfection 2. The reverse is rotated about 170° from standard coin turn. Richard Snow reports that rotation is found on about 15% of all proofs. This amazing Premium Gem Cameo proof exhibits brilliant orange mint color with only the slightest mellowing. The fields are fully and deeply mirrored and the devices are frosty and fully lustrous with exquisite design details. Many of the 1868 proofs are reported with streaky toning but that is not the case here, as this pristine example has splendid orange surfaces. The sole CAC-endorsed coin at the PR66 Red level or finer. PCGS Population: 3 in 66 Red Cameo, 0 finer (11/15).
