Rare Full Red PR66 1868 Cent
1868 1C PR66 Red PCGS. The 1868 is a highly respected and very rare proof Indian cent with full red color and in Gem or better condition. Only one other piece has been so graded by PCGS and two PR66s have been certified by NGC (9/04). The official mintage for the 1868 was 600 pieces in proof format. Ron Sirna has estimated that about 100 pieces were struck with a widely rotated reverse; however, we believe that to be a conservative number and think the number of rotated reverse pieces to be closer to half the mintage. This is an especially attractive example that has rich red surfaces with subtle orange colored streaks interspersed over each side. Intricately detailed in all areas.(#2293) (Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229L, PCGS# 2293, GSID# 1510)
