Description

1870 Indian Cent, PR66 Red
Among the Finest Certified, CAC Endorsed
Early PCGS 'Rattler' Holder

1870 1C PR66 Red PCGS. CAC. Snow-PR1. Struck from the sole 1870 proof die pair, with the reverse die first seen on the 1868 Snow-PT1 (Judd-612) aluminum metallurgical trial pattern. This is an early strike, with the reverse rotated approximately 5° clockwise in relation to the obverse. Bright orange-gold surfaces are intensely mirrored and are essentially free from post-mint distractions, although we do notice a pair of small lint marks on the cheek which are as struck. Still, this is one of the finest non-cameo 1870 proof Indians we have seen or offered in the past 20+ years. The coin is housed in an early PCGS "rattler" holder, now CAC endorsed for its high quality for the assigned grade. Population: 7 in 66 Red, 0 finer. CAC: 3 in 66, 0 finer (9/24).
