    1872 Proof Indian Cent
    Choice Red Cameo Example

1872 1C PR64 Cameo PCGS. A substantial proof mintage of 950 pieces was struck in 1872, but few surviving examples can match the appeal of this Choice Red Cameo specimen. The blazing red fields of this piece are deeply mirrored and the frosty design elements provide uncommon field-device contrast. Richard Snow notes "examples with full cameo contrast are rare." The obverse surface displays the streaky orange-gold and red color often seen on proofs of this era. Population: 1 in 64 Cameo, 2 finer (12/12).(Registry values: P5)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229R, PCGS# 82305)

    Weight: 3.11 grams

Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc
