    1872 Indian Cent, PR64 Red
    Rich Coloration, Rotated Reverse

1872 1C PR64 Red PCGS. Bold N in ONE, as are all 1872 proof cents struck from this single set of dies (estimated 950+ pieces manufactured). The 1872 was a uniformly well-made issue. This piece is a very early die state from the only die pair known of this date. This near-Gem enjoys vibrant copper-orange color with sun-gold and red-violet accents. The fields are glassy and reflective. A few specks of carbon and the occasional microscopic contact fleck appear on each side. The reverse die is rotated 180 degrees, accounting for the Mint Error designation. To date, this is the only medallic alignment 1872 proof cent known. Population: 39 in 64 Red, 20 finer (10/18).
