1873 Closed 3 Cent, PR66 Red Cameo
Tied for Finest at PCGS

1873 1C Closed 3 PR66 Red Cameo PCGS. Snow-PR1. Closed 3. The 1,100-piece proof mintage in 1873 paired a Closed 3 obverse with the 1872 proof reverse die featuring the unusual bulging right pennant on the T in CENT. The proof 1873 Closed 3 is one of several issues in the Indian Cent series with added date pressure due to the general unavailability of high grade business strikes. This Premium Gem Red Cameo example displays reflective fields and an overlay of brick-red and violet colors, with fire-orange hues beneath. Die polishing merges the first feather's base into the field. This Red Cameo is one of three certified by PCGS, with none finer (9/25).(Registry values: P3)
