    1873 1C Closed 3 PR66 Red PCGS. An estimated mintage of 1,100 proofs are all of the Closed 3 design, as opposed to business strikes of the date where coins were minted with both Closed and Open 3s. This example is deeply mirrored with a full strike on the devices. Attractive orange surfaces show violet accents at the centers. No mentionable contact marks are seen under magnification except for a single, thin mark on the T of CENT. The surfaces are carbon-free to the eye with only a few microscopic flecks visible under a glass. Population: 3 in 66 Red, 0 finer (12/13).(Registry values: N4719)
