    Description

    Elusive Proof 1875 Indian Cent

1875 1C PR 65 Red NGC. Production of proof Indian cents at the Philadelphia Mint scarcely topped 700 pieces in 1875, and this issue is one of the scarcer proof deliveries from the 1870s. Snow (1992) has seen four different obverse dies for this issue, and the diagnostic feature of this particular example is a die line in the denticles below the first two digits in the date. This is an attractive coin whose otherwise orange-pink surfaces reveal a light overlay of haziness at select angles. Crisply defined down to the last feather tip and leaf vein, both sides are also typically mark-free for the grade. Population: 6 in 65, 0 finer (10/00).
    From the Joshua Collection.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229U, PCGS# 2314)

    Weight: 3.11 grams

Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc
