Condition Rarity 1876 Indian Cent, PR65 Red NGC
1876 1C PR65 Red NGC. We do not know exactly how many proof Indian Cents were delivered in 1876, but 1,150 pieces seems to be generally accepted as a minimum. While this is a generous total for the era, the 1876 is surprisingly elusive as a Gem, particularly with full mint luster. A lovely specimen, both sides exhibit dominant pinkish-gold color with some lilac shadings over the upper reverse and at the lower obverse border. There are no noteworthy blemishes, and the strike is sharp in all areas. A small die chip (as struck) on Liberty's cheek and striations (also as produced) in the reverse field are noted. Population: 8 in 65 Red, with a mere three finer (7/02).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229V, PCGS# 2317)
