    Description

Key Date Gem Proof 1877 Indian Cent

1877 1C PR65 Red and Brown NGC. A superbly struck example of the key date to the Indian Head cent series. The color has turned from the original red to a reddish-gold with toning flecks scattered over the surfaces and multicolored underlying iridescence creating an attractive, mottled effect. This Gem example shows two trivial grazes on the lower left obverse, but no marks or defects appear anywhere else. Because of its rarity as a business strike, this date enjoys a popularity and respect afforded to none other in the series. Census: 65 in 65, 15 finer (7/06).

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229W, PCGS# 2319)
