    Description

Important Gem 1877 Cent, Red and Brown

1877 1C PR65 Red and Brown NGC. Struck from the "Bulged T" reverse that was first used to strike proofs in 1872, the right pennant of the T in CENT is in much higher relief than the other parts of that letter. It is currently believed that 910 proofs were struck of this important issue. Most of each side is red but there are significant portions that are also emerald-green (not actually brown). A lovely Gem example with a minimum of surface distractions. Population: 54 in 65, 12 finer (4/03).
From the Mark Van Deusen Collection.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 229W, PCGS# 2319)

Thanks to Heritage I realized a handsome profit for my coin submissions and intend to send most of the remainder of my collection to Heritage Auction Galleries for future auctions.
