Description

1877 Cent, PR67 Brown
A Premier Rarity at This Level

1877 1C PR67 Brown NGC. The business-strike 1877 Indian cent is the acknowledged low-mintage key to the series, putting extreme pressure on the small production of 900 proofs from date collectors. Moreover, while proofs were carefully saved by collectors, they are rarely found in PR67 condition, regardless of color. Indeed, this is the sole finest PR67 Brown proof at NGC. The service has also seen one submission each in PR67 Red and Brown, and PR67 Red. None are finer (5/18).

This spectacular Superb Gem exhibits razor-sharp definition on all design elements, unsurprising given the coin's proof origin. Impeccably preserved surfaces have mellowed to lilac and brown in many areas, but the surfaces reveal vibrant iridescent blue patina when held at certain angles.(Registry values: N7079)
