    Description

    1883 Indian Cent, PR65 Brown
    Smooth, Glossy Patina

1883 1C PR65 Brown NGC. CAC. A razor-sharp strike and glossy, mirrored surfaces complement rich auburn-brown toning that reveals hints of reddish luster in the protected regions. No marks or carbon spotting are detectable. Housed in a prior generation holder.

Population Data (4/15): Well over a hundred Brown proofs are finer at NGC and PCGS combined.

Heritage Commentary: The introduction of Barber's Liberty Head nickel in 1883 resulted in heightened proof set sales for this date as collectors sought to acquire the Shield and the two different Liberty Head types. The inclusion of a proof Indian cent in each of these sets accounts for that issue's abnormally high mintage (6,609 pieces). The 1883 proof cent is fairly available, as would be expected, but high-grade pieces are nonetheless moderately elusive. This Gem Brown example is particularly attractive for the grade.

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 22A4, PCGS# 2336)

    Weight: 3.11 grams

Metal: 95% Copper, 5% Tin and Zinc
