1886 Type One Cent, PR67 Brown
    Rich Blue and Cherry-Red Colors

1886 1C Type One PR67 Brown PCGS. Ex: The Larry Shepherd Collection. This is interesting. Rick Snow states: " ... typically found on paler planchets which tone to Red Brown or Brown color easier than other dates except 1887 and 1888." Like the 1885, with its large mintage, the 1886 Type One also offers a wide palette of colors to non-Red collectors. Most of each side is bright cobalt-blue, but there is a noticeable arc of cherry-red also present. Apparently PCGS thought the dominant color was not red, so it received the Brown designation, even though no Brown is actually present. Each side is remarkably clean and problem-free with no traces of carbon. Population: 17 in 67 (1 in 67+) Brown, 1 finer (10/18).
