Near-Gem Proof Red 1886 Type Two Indian Cent

1886 1C Type Two PR64 Red PCGS. Bowers' Guide Book of Flying Eagle and Indian Cents estimates that perhaps 40% of the total proofs for this year were of the new Type Two hub variety, introduced this year and lasting through the end of the series. Only in 1954 did collectors begin discriminating between the two variants. This piece displays plenty of dusky orange-red coloration, with some waves of light olive toning in the left obverse field. Seldom seen finer. Population: 10 in 64 Red, 3 finer (8/08).(Registry values: P5)
