    Description

Very Scarce Type Two 1886 Cent, PR65 Red

1886 1C Type Two PR65 Red NGC. The Type Two resulted from a hub change in this year. The difference between the two types can be easily remembered by thinking of the coin as a clock face. The hand of the imaginary clock will sweep past the position of the IC of the Type One coins before the CA of the Type Two examples. While more than 2,500 proofs were recorded as having been struck of the Type Two Cent, they are by far the scarcer of the two types. Even red color covers both sides with moderately deep mirrors in the fields. A streak of dark color runs along the nose line of the Indian and there are several tiny flyspecks of carbon seen on each side. Population: 5 in 65, 2 finer (4/02).
    From the Alex Highland Collection.
