Blazing, Pristine PR68 Red 1901 Indian Cent

1901 1C PR68 Red NGC. The strike is bold on this blazing Indian cent, with a full four diamonds and LIBERTY. A touch of softness shows at the tops of a couple of headdress feathers and the lowest hair curl. While some of the feather tips, part of the ribbon, and a portion of the highpoint hair and BERTY are no longer red, the remainder of the obverse, and all of the reverse, is entirely so--and moreover, it is a flaming, deep sunset-orange of the most delectable appearance. Visible carbon is absent, although a couple of tiny obverse flecks can be seen under a loupe. This example and one other piece at NGC are tied for the finest known (8/06).(Registry values: N4719)
