    Description

Stellar Final-Year 1909 Indian Cent in Proof 66 Red

1909 1C PR66 Red PCGS. The year 1909 is a transitional one in the U.S. small Cent series. The long-lived Indian design made way for the even longer-lived Lincoln motif, proofs of both types being delivered in the Philadelphia Mint. The 1909 Indian Cent has an original mintage of 2,175 specimen strikings, survivors of which are always in demand among final-year type collectors. Mostly cherry-red in color, both sides boast full mint luster and sharp striking definition. A few swirls of variegated color over Liberty's cheek are noted, these perhaps serving to bar this visually impressive example from an even higher grade. Population: 13 in 66 Red, just two are finer (1/03).
    From the Colburn Collection.
