Description
Rare Proof 1909 Indian Ten
1909 $10 --Altered Surface--NCS. Proof. The Mint used a Roman finish on proofs of this date, giving examples a lighter appearance than the matte proof issue of the prior year. This specimen is perhaps a bit too bright, but the minutely granular texture is characteristic of the production method. The 1909 proof ten mintage is a mere 74 pieces, and such a low emission prevents most collectors from ever acquiring an example. However, the present piece should be an affordable alternative for those unable or unwilling to spend approximately $50,000 for a Gem.(Registry values: N2998)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28HF, PCGS# 8891, GSID# 9777)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
