Description

Choice Proof 1912 Indian Ten
Rare Series Issue, 83 Coins Minted

1912 $10 PR64 PCGS. The 1912 proof Indian ten dollar gold piece claims a low mintage of just 83 pieces. Although some dates have even lower mintages, Jeff Ambio and David Akers believe the 1912 is tied with the 1915 issue as the rarest date of the series in terms of total number of coins known.
Because the matte proof issues of previous years were so unpopular with collectors, the Mint changed to a fine-grain sandblast finish in 1912. This coin displays lighter surfaces than most 1911 proofs, with an even mustard-gold color. The design elements exhibit razor-sharp definition throughout, and close inspection with a glass reveals only a few minor signs of contact. Population: 4 in 64, 10 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N7079)
