Description
1910 Half Eagle, PR64
Radiant 'Roman Finish' Proof
1910 $5 PR64 PCGS. CAC. The "Roman Gold" finish used to
strike 250 proof half eagles in 1910 straddled the line between
satiny and reflective, yet the overall impression is more toward
the satiny side. The smooth portions of the incuse design appear
more reflective than the high, satin fields or the intricately
detailed headdress and eagle's plumage. This near-Gem proof displays attractive medium-gold color trending toward orange-gold at the margins. Sharply struck, the microgranular fields appear unmarked and highly attractive. While the proof mintage was substantial for the series, many went unsold and were melted at year's end. PCGS estimates 60 to 75 survivors remain in all grades. Population: 12 in 64, 12 finer (1/16).(Registry values: N4719)
Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28E4, PCGS# 8541, Greysheet# 9334)
Weight: 8.36 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
