Description
Among The Finest 1911 Matte Proof Five Dollar Gold Pieces
1911 PR 66 NGC. Ex: Trompeter. The regular matte finish resumed in 1911 and 139 proofs were produced, but far fewer are known today. This piece has a fine, sandblast finish with color that is nearest to the 1908 in hue. On the obverse there is an almost complete wire rim. There are no identifying marks save a minute spot of lacquer or the like (removable) at the rim near the lowest arrowpoint. It should go without saying that with the purchase of this piece Ed Trompeter acquired one of the sharpest, most original, 1911 matte proof fives on the market in the past twenty years.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28E5, PCGS# 8542, Greysheet# 9335)
Weight: 8.36 grams
