Description

1912 Indian Half Eagle, PR65
Fine-Grained Sandblast Finish

1912 $5 PR65 PCGS Secure. The 1912 proof Indian half eagle claims a mintage of just 144 pieces, but the number distributed to collectors was certainly even smaller. Unsold specimens were melted for recoinage after the end of the year. The proofs featured an attractive, fine-grained sandblast finish that gave the coins a lighter appearance than their 1911 predecessors. This delightful Gem exhibits sharply detailed design elements throughout and the virtually flawless orange-gold surfaces show unbroken matte luster on both sides. A single dark alloy spot near the eagle's head acts as a pedigree marker. We expect intense competition from series specialists when this lot is called. Population: 10 in 65, 19 finer (6/18).(Registry values: N7079)
