Description

1912 Half Eagle, Matte PR67
Fine-Grained and Finely Preserved

1912 $5 PR67 NGC. The matte proof half eagles of 1912 tend to be well-produced, elusive as a date, and quite attractive on the sparse occasions when they appear, showing a fine-grained, microscopic texture and color that is generally lighter yellow-gold than that found on the 1911. This Superb Gem proof graded by NGC is a case in point, exhibiting a uniformly microscopic matte finish, on surfaces that are also uniformly well-preserved, nearly without flaw. The obverse fabric seems completely free of disruption, and the reverse shows only a single small luster scrape by the last A in AMERICA that is more identifier than irritant, making this a beautiful survivor of the issue and the highest-graded we have offered in more than three years now, since lot 4097 in our New York Signature (Heritage, 3/2011), also an NGC coin, brought $46,000. Census: 17 in 67, 3 finer (7/15).(Registry values: N10218)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28E6, PCGS# 8543, Greysheet# 9336)
