    1915 Indian Half Eagle, PR66
Final Gold Proof Issue, Only One Finer at NGC

1915 $5 PR66 NGC. Only 75 proof Indian half eagles were struck in 1915, as dissatisfaction with the various sandblast, matte, and Roman proof finishes employed by the Mint during the early 20th century had reduced collector demand to nadir. More than half of the small mintage remained unsold at the end of the year and was later destroyed, making the 1915 the rarest proof of the Indian series today. Although minor proof sets were produced the following year, no gold proofs of any denomination were struck after 1915.

This delightful Premium Gem possesses outstanding eye appeal, with even honey-gold surfaces that show a few highlights of orange. The design elements are sharply detailed throughout, and the well-preserved surfaces show no mentionable distractions. Census: 8 in 66, 1 finer (4/14).(Registry values: N7079)
