    Description

1908 Indian Two and a Half
    Impeccable Premium Gem Matte Proof

1908 $2 1/2 PR66 NGC. CAC. This first-year Premium Gem matte proof example of the Bela Pratt Indian Head design is certified in an early NGC "no-line fatty" holder with no bar code on the front but a hologram reverse, a coin with impeccable credentials and bearing the added recent imprimatur of CAC. The surfaces are a deep brick-red color and free of any mentionable distractions. The strike is far sharper than will ever be seen on a business strike bearing this date, yet the matte proofs in their day were apparently considered dull and drab, and the Roman Finish proofs of 1909 and 1910 received a similar lukewarm reception. Census: 41 in 66, 30 finer (3/13).
