    Description

Breathtaking Matte Proof 1908 Indian Quarter Eagle, One of Two PR66 NGC Examples in this Sale

1908 $2 1/2 PR66 NGC. This is the first Signature Sale in which Heritage has been able to offer multiple examples of the proof 1908 Indian Two-and-a-Half. The coin in this lot is housed in an older NGC slab, and it is temptingly close to a Superb Gem rating. The dies for this first-year issue did not include sharp definition on the eagle's wing feathers, but all features that were present are full on both sides. Unsightly handling marks are nonexistent, and we would even be hard pressed to find a suitable pedigree marker if one of our bidders requested one. The finish is matte in texture--as it is on all proofs of this issue--with rich khaki-gold color and olive-gold highlights. An important bidding opportunity for the advanced 20th century gold collector who appreciates both technical quality and eye appeal.
