Description
Favored PR66 1908 Quarter Eagle
First Matte Proof Year
1908 $2 1/2 PR66 NGC. The first-year matte proofs of the
1908 quarter eagle are the most widely available specimens in the
Pratt series, though the matte proof texture was seen as an
unattractive novelty by many of the Mint's steady gold proof
buyers. This is a luminous and beautiful Premium Gem specimen,
richly textured with dusky orange-gold flair. The sunken devices
are boldly detailed, particularly on the devices, and the matte
surfaces highlight the striking characteristics. A carefully
preserved and delightful representative of this important chapter
in proof gold history. Census: 42 in 66, 26 finer (6/10).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 289G, PCGS# 7957, GSID# 8619)
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
