Description

1910 Indian Quarter Eagle, PR62
Attractive Satin Finish Proof

1910 $2 1/2 PR62 PCGS. JD-1, R.4. Despite a large proof mintage numbering 682 pieces, the 1910 proofs remain extremely scarce with only 90 to 110 proofs surviving according to John Dannreuther's research. The fine satin finish introduced in 1909 was not wildly popular at the time, but speculators rushed to order 1910 proofs because no 1910 circulation strikes were made until the final quarter of 1910, when 492,000 pieces were struck. Roger Burdette suggests many proofs were spent upon such an influx of 1910 circulation-strike quarter eagles late in the year. This is a pleasing satin finish proof with a few minor marks and light abrasions, but they do not significantly detract from the satiny orange-gold eye appeal. The sharp proof strike remains intact. PCGS Population: 3 in 62, 79 finer (1/26).(Registry values: N2998)
