Description

PCGS 1910 PR 65. An enchanting Roman Gold proof quarter eagle that has seemingly flawless features. The mintages for proof gold struck in 1910 is extraordinarily high, either the figures are in error or the vast majority of the coins struck were later melted. The official mintage for the 1910 quarter eagle was a whopping 682 proofs. However, survivors most likely number only 75-100 pieces, indicative of a much smaller mintage than the official one. The Roman Gold finish is quite unlike any other proof finish in U.S. coinage, and it is limited to only two years, 1909 and 1910, making these pieces even more desirable to advanced collectors of proof gold. The brighter luster of the Roman Gold finish is certainly apparent on this coin, and the surfaces display a subtly variegated rose and olive patina that is lovely indeed. As mentioned, we do not see any surface flaws or shiny spots on this coin. Population: 6 in 66, 1 finer.
